The health gauge and monitor in Ylands is based on a single row of 5 heart icons. Each full heart has 20 hit point each (full health is 100 hit points).
Hearts[]
Hearts make up the health meter for the player and mobs in Exploration Mode. Each heart represents 20 hit points, for 100 hit points total. Hit points are lost as a percentage of those hit points.
Hit points can be lost by obtaining damage in the following ways:
- Starving
- Fall damage
- Heat damage
- Cold damage
- Being attacked by a hostile mob (or another player if PvP is on)
- Being shot; either with a Arrow, Crossbow Bolt, Bullet, Shotgun Shell, Musket Ball, Cannonball or Dart shooter.
- Stepping on a Sea Urchin
- Drowning underwater
- Being too close to an explosion
- Typing /killme in the chat bar.
- Falling into The Void
As the health bar depletes, the color on screen begins to fade, warning that the player's demise is imminent if health is not restored.
Healing allows health to be recovered. This can be achieved through several means, both "naturally" and through craftable items.
- The Health Potion will restore 100% of health immediately.
- Health regenerates slowly at around 5 HP per minute, meaning each heart regenerates after 4 minutes and full health is regenerated after 20 minutes.
- Using any of the aid items such as poultices and bandages.
Damage is split between the health bar and armor stats. Each piece of armor has different attributes which affect the absorption and overall damage dealt to the player.
In Creative Mode the player still has health, but it is immune to damage with the Creator Cube equipped. The health bar has a creator cube icon next to it and the heart icons have an purple tinge to them. The player is invulnerable to everything except falling into The Void or the /killme command.
Death[]
Death can occur when all of a player or mob's hit points are depleted. The /killme command will also instantly bring about death.
For players, an "Oh, snap! You died... :(" overlay appears that displays a death message (see below).
Players fall to the ground when killed, the fallen body disappears and is replaced by a death chest (if the player had inventory). The death location is marked on the Map with either a Gravestone icon or a Death Chest icon if the player had inventory.
Death messages[]
These messages communicate how the player died, and some are intended to be humorous.
